Established in 1995, Whalehaven Winery is the third-oldest wine producer in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. Situated just outside Hermanus, this boutique winery takes its name from the protective bay that provides a safe haven for breeding Southern Right whales during the Cape winter months. Crafting a delightful range of wines that captivate and excite the taste buds, Whalehaven specializes in handcrafted wines, including exceptional site-specific Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Whalehaven Winery can be used as a venue for private tastings for groups of up to 16 people. Tailor-made wine tasting packages are available for groups or special occasions. Bookings are essential.

The Hemel-en-Aarde valley is one of the most relaxing and picturesque regions in South Africa. Known for its cool-climate wines and fabulous wine farms, it neighbours Hermanus, which is home to the Southern Right whale for a few months every year. The Walker Bay wine region is a must-visit destination.
In 2004, Walker Bay Wine Ward was reclassified as a Wine District, one of 21 in South Africa's winelands. Due to its size and diverse wine styles, Walker Bay couldn't justify its ward status. With the help of a committee of soil specialists and viticulturists, producers could create their own wine wards. Within the Hemel-en-Aarde region, three wards were created: Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, and Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, each with its own unique character.
